Heavy rainfall in parts of Bangladesh has increased the risk of flash flood significantly in certain regions of the country, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre.

In the country’s southern region, specifically in Mongla, Khulna Division, and Daulatkhan, Barishal Division, the flood is above danger level. In Khulna city, the flood is within 50cm below the danger level— a warning has been issued.

Concurrently, in the capital, rainfall envelopes the city in a drizzle, cooling the heatwave of the past few days.

The Met office foresees light to moderate rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and wind over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Meanwhile, day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Due to low-pressure over Northwest Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas, heavy (44-88mm/24hrs) to very heavy (> 88mm/24hrs) rainfall is predicted to occur at many places over Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions during next 48 hours commencing from the evening of Tuesday.

Landslides may occur at the places over the hilly districts of Chattogram, Rangamati, Bandarban, Khagrachari, and Cox’s Bazar due to heavy rain. Besides, temporary waterlogging may occur at places over Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas.
