On Tuesday, a group of enraged individuals vandalised the auditorium of Rabindra Kacharibari in the Shahzadpur municipality area of Sirajganj district, protesting an alleged assault on a visitor over a motorcycle parking dispute.

Aslam Ali, officer-in-charge of Shahzadpur Police Station, said a visitor identified as Shahnewaz, along with his family went to the Rabindra Kacharibari to visit the spot on Sunday. He purchased a ticket at the counter but did not receive a token for parking his motorcycle, reports UNB.

After their visit, a staff member at the entrance requested the parking token. When Shahnewaz was unable to provide it, a confrontation broke out between the two.

Subsequently, the staff of Rabindra Kacharibari, along with the custodian, escorted Shahnewaz to an office room where they reportedly assaulted him over the issue. Later, local BNP leaders, along with Shahnewaz’s guardian, intervened and rescued him. A formal complaint was filed with Shahzadpur Police Station on the same day.

Protesting the issue, local residents formed a human chain in front of the Press Club in Sirajganj, demanding punishment for those responsible for assaulting the visitor.

Shortly after, a group of vandals attacked the auditorium of Rabindra Kacharibari, smashing window panes, doors, and furniture. Upon receiving information, police quickly arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.

Additional police have been deployed in the Rabindra Kacharibari to avert further trouble, said Aslam Ali.
