A senior Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officer died after reportedly committing suicide at RAB’s Bahaddarhat camp in Chattogram on Wednesday morning.
Police recovered the body of 33-year-old Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Palash Saha at around 12:30pm.
He was serving at the camp under the RAB-7 battalion.
According to Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commission Amirul Islam, the incident took place at around 10:30am, after the ASP had prepped for a mission. He had taken his government-issued firearm and entered his office.
Moments later, colleagues heard a gunshot and went in, where he was found with a bullet wound to the head and his service pistol on the floor, he said.
A suicide note was found on the table, said Senior ASP (Media) of RAB-7, ARM Muzaffar Hossain.
The body was immediately taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, the RAB official added.
Further details will follow after the autopsy, officials said.
