Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Ousmane Dembélé has sustained a hamstring strain, leaving his availability for next week’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Arsenal in serious doubt.
Dembélé was the match-winner in the first leg at the Emirates on Tuesday night, scoring inside four minutes to give the Ligue 1 champions a slender 1-0 lead heading into the return fixture in Paris.
However, the French international was forced off in the second half and has since been unable to train. A medical update issued by PSG on Friday confirmed the winger has strained his right hamstring and will undergo further assessment in the coming days.
“Ousmane Dembélé has strained his right hamstring. His condition is progressing well. A further assessment will be carried out shortly,” the statement read.
Dembélé will definitely miss PSG’s domestic fixture this weekend against Strasbourg, with manager Luis Enrique confirming: “He won’t play, that’s for sure.”
With the Ligue 1 title already secured, there is little incentive for PSG to risk key players in Saturday’s clash against Liam Rosenior’s side, with all focus now on the second leg against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Speaking after Tuesday’s win, Dembélé attempted to play down concerns about the injury: “I felt a little something, but it’s okay.”
Enrique, however, offered a more cautious update:
“It’s not serious, it’s something very minor, but he’s probably a doubt for the second leg. We’re going to try to get Dembélé back on the pitch. If Ousmane can play, that’s better — but if he doesn’t, we’ll still be a real team. We’ve been saying that since the start of the season.”
PSG are looking to reach their first Champions League final since 2020, and Dembélé’s potential absence would be a significant setback, given his electric form in Europe this season.
The return leg takes place at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.
