Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain continued their sit-in for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, demanding his immediate swearing-in as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Protesters began gathering from 9:00am today in front of DSCC headquarters, halting administrative work and public services.
They also demanded the resignation of Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, adviser to the Local Government Division, declaring him “unwanted” at the premises.
Former secretary Mashiur Rahman, representing the protesters under the banner of “Dhaka Bashi”, announced the complete blockade programme Saturday. He said the blockade would continue daily during the same hours until Ishraque is officially given charge.
Earlier, At a press conference on Saturday, Ishraque claimed that the former mayor, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, used his influence to delay legal proceedings against the tribunal ruling. “The court has declared me valid. Those who oppose it are disrespecting the court,” he said.
