In a major step toward automating government financial operations, the Bangladesh Postal Department has rolled out a new iBAS++ module that will digitise fund withdrawals, deposits, and remittance transactions across its nationwide network.
The module, launched officially on July 1, 2025, at the Postal Building in Agargaon, was inaugurated by Faiz Ahmed Taib, Special Assistant to the chief adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, says a press release.
The system integrates the Postal Directorate’s fund supply processes with the Integrated Budget and Accounting System (iBAS++), aiming to modernise one of the country’s oldest government entities.
“This is a historic leap in transforming the postal treasury management system,” said Taib.
“With the launch of this module, automated accounting transactions will now be processed between 72 key post offices and the central treasury, ensuring transparency, timeliness, and accuracy in financial flows”.
He added that the manual accounting structure of the Postal Department must be restructured through digital platforms like iBAS++.
Training programmes will be organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance to ensure smooth implementation.
Calling for the integration of all iBAS modules into a unified super app, Taib proposed that the digital transformation of all entities under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and IT should be prioritised under the Digital Transformation Master Plan.
He also urged coordination with the Data Governance Authority to assess deployment and called for iBAS++ to be classified as Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) to ensure cybersecurity under national ordinances.
The module is also a significant milestone in the implementation of GIFMIS (Government Integrated Financial Management Information System) and the Treasury Single Account (TSA) framework.
Finance Division Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Majumder chaired the workshop.
Other senior attendees included Additional Secretaries Bilkis Jahan Remi and Sirajun Noor Chowdhury, Comptroller and Auditor General SM Rezvi, and Postal Directorate Director General SM Shahabuddin.
