A Dhaka court has granted five-day remand to Azim and Brishti, a couple arrested in a case filed over their alleged involvement in producing and distributing pornographic content.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana passed the order on Tuesday after CID Sub-Inspector Md Mizanur Rahman produced them before the court and sought seven-day remand for interrogation.
Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman argued in favour of the remand petition. However, no defense lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused.
Earlier on 19 October, the couple was arrested from a flat in Hazipara near Roangchhari bus station in Bandarban.
According to the case details, about 15 days ago, the couple rented the apartment in the area, claiming they were fruit traders.
They had been living there since then but were hardly seen outside except for urgent needs and had little interaction with neighbours.
Police said the couple had been producing pornographic videos and uploading them to international adult websites. In May 2024, they opened a Telegram channel under their names, which now has several thousand members.
Through this channel, they shared links to new videos and screenshots of their earnings. The accused also created multiple online groups to encourage others to produce and share pornographic content.
