Actress Pori Moni appeared before Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 on Monday for cross-examination in a defamation case against Dhaka Boat Club president businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud, Tuhin Siddiqui, and three others.
However, she fell ill in court and subsequently left after submitting an application to postpone the questioning.
The actress arrived at Judge Shahina Haque Siddika’s courtroom at 11:05am. At 11:32am, the court scheduled the defense lawyers’ cross-examination for 3:30pm. While waiting in her car until the appointed time, Pori Moni became unwell. Her lawyers then petitioned the court citing her illness, prompting Judge Siddika to reschedule the cross-examination for September 9 before allowing Pori Moni to leave.
Case details reveal that on June 14, 2021, Pori Moni filed an attempted rape and murder case at Savar Police Station against Nasir Uddin Mahmud, his friend Amir, and four unnamed individuals. Investigating officer Kamal Hossain submitted the chargesheet against three accused on September 6 that year.
The trial commenced on May 18, 2022, after charges were framed. Pori Moni’s partial testimony began on November 29, 2022. Following her lawyer’s request, the court permitted testimony via camera trial, with her full statement recorded on September 22, 2023.
