A delegation of prominent political leaders, including Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Col (Retd) Oli Ahmed and Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, held discussions with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Sunday regarding crucial national issues, particularly the upcoming national elections and political reforms.
The meeting took place at the Chief Adviser’s official residence Jamuna, where they were joined by Communist Party of Bangladesh President Mujahidul Islam Selim, Ganosamhati Andolan Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki, and AB Party President Mujibur Rahman Manju, among others. Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam were also present during the discussions.
In a subsequent session, the chief adviser met with a delegation of Islamic scholars including Maulana Sadiqur Rahman, Maulana Rezaul Karim, and Maulana Mamunul Haque, along with other religious leaders.
This follows Saturday’s separate meetings with delegations from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party.
Chief Adviser Prof Yunus reaffirmed his commitment regarding the election timeline, emphasising that the interim government will not extend beyond June next year.
“Prof Yunus is a man of his word. He has set a clear timeframe and will not exceed it,” Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told reporters, referring to the election window between December 2025 and June 2026.
Alam confirmed that the Chief Adviser communicated this same timeline during his meeting with BNP leaders. When questioned further, Alam stressed that June 30, 2026, remains the absolute deadline, stating: “The Chief Adviser keeps his promises.”
All of Saturday’s meetings concluded positively, with political leaders expressing confidence in the Chief Adviser’s leadership, according to the press secretary.
