A constable from Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has been arrested for allegedly leaking a message from Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz to all police officers via walkie-talkie. The message, which was broadcast on August 12, instructed officers to shoot anyone carrying sharp weapons or firearms.

The constable, identified as Ami Das, who works in the CMP’s telecom unit, was arrested by the police on Sunday night by the Khulshi police. He was deployed at Khulshi police station on special duty. Mahmudha Begum, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Media Affairs at CMP, confirmed the arrest to The Times of Bangladesh.

The incident took place after an attack on a police officer in the city’s Bandar Thana area on August 11. The officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Sayed, was severely injured during a clash with Awami League activists.

Following the attack, Commissioner Hasib Aziz issued a walkie-talkie message to all CMP members, directing them to use firearms when encountering armed individuals. The message, which was later leaked on social media, caused discomfort among senior police officers in the city.

Police have launched an investigation into the leak, with authorities looking into who may have been involved in the incident. The message instructed that only officers carrying firearms and live ammunition would be allowed to participate in patrols or other security operations. The Commissioner’s statement also included warnings regarding the severity of future attacks and authorized officers to use force if necessary to protect themselves.
