Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced that the process to repatriate the body of pilot Saifuzzaman, who died in a boating accident in Canada, is underway. The airline confirmed this in a press release issued Monday afternoon. Saifuzzaman served as a Boeing 787 pilot for Biman.
In the press release, Biman Bangladesh Airlines expressed profound grief over the pilot’s tragic demise.
On Sunday local time, Saifuzzaman and former BGMEA leader Abdullah Hil Rakib had traveled with their families to Kawartha Lake, 155 km from Toronto. Saifuzzaman, his son, and Rakib were on a small dinghy when it capsized due to strong winds around 3pm. While the son managed to swim ashore, the other two drowned. Police and rescue teams later recovered their bodies.
Biman’s statement noted that its Toronto office is in “close coordination” with the Bangladesh High Commission in Canada to repatriate Saifuzzaman’s remains as per his family’s wishes.
The airline prayed for the departed soul and extended deep condolences to the bereaved family.
