Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association (BPA) has alleged that physiotherapists are being harassed through “illegal visits” by mobile courts.
The BPA made the allegation at a press conference at the National Press Club in the capital on Saturday.
BPA members discussed various issues, including illegal raids and harassment, at the press conference titled “Demand for an end to illegal raids and harassment at physiotherapy centres”.
They alleged that physiotherapists can independently see patients and prescribe physiotherapy as per the BRC law.
However, they are facing harassment as they are being jailed and fined for writing prescriptions and using the title of doctor in the drives by mobile courts.
BPA President Professor Anwar Hossain said physiotherapists have been practicing with the title of doctor since before independence.
Even after independence, physiotherapists have been mentioned with the title of doctor in the gazette of the Ministry of Health, he added.
“So, imprisonment and fine for using the title of doctor is nothing but harassment.”
BPA general secretary Shahadat Hossain, Organising Secretary Nesar Uddin and physiotherapist HM Yasin Ali, among others, were present at the press briefing.
