Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Mia Ghulam Parwar has warned that if the opinions of one political party dominate the July Declaration, it could lead the country back into turmoil.

However, he expressed hope that the July Declaration would reflect the true aspirations of the people.

Speaking as the chief guest at a rally organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan South branch of the party on the first anniversary of the July Uprising on Tuesday (August 5), Ghulam Parwar said, “If the views of a single party are given priority in the July Declaration, the country will once again become a furnace of unrest.”

The rally, held in Paltan, in the capital, also saw Ghulam Parwar emphasizing the importance of keeping the nation free from fascism, a goal that was pursued by students and the public during the 2024 uprising.

“Our people gave their lives to remove fascism and build an equal, humane Bangladesh. We cannot allow any fascists to raise their head again,” he said.

Ghulam Parwar further stressed that, to keep Bangladesh free from fascism, genuine reforms must be implemented before the next elections, including the full realization of the July Charter. “Those who refuse to grant legal validity to the July Charter do not have good intentions for the country,” he said.

He also advocated for the use of the Proportional Representation (PR) voting system, calling it essential for ensuring that every vote counts. “There is no alternative to the PR system; it is used in 91 countries around the world,” Ghulam Parwar stated. “Those who refuse to accept this system are trying to reinstate fascism.”

Addressing the Chief Adviser, Ghulam Parwar urged him to ensure the timely implementation of reforms and the July Declaration, warning that failure to do so would lead to more street protests by the people. “If the reforms, judicial measures, and July Declaration are not implemented because of any party’s obstruction, the people will take to the streets again,” he declared.

The rally was chaired by Nurul Islam Bulbul, the Amir of Dhaka Metropolitan South. Senior leaders, including Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, were also present at the event, after which a procession was carried out.
