Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar on Saturday accused three major political parties of plundering the country for 54 years since independence and urged voters to support the party candidate to restore justice and end years of misrule and corruption.
Parwar made the remarks while addressing an election rally at Hasan Ali Government High School ground in Chandpur, organised in support of Jamaat’s candidate for Chandpur-3 (Sadar-Haimchar), Md Shahjahan Mia.
“Now is the time to end the rule of these three parties. On 12 February, you will vote ‘yes’ and cast your ballot for electoral symbol Darpalla (Scale),” he said.
Parwar condemned an alleged threat by a rival leader aimed at discouraging Jamaat’s women supporters from campaigning. “If you can humiliate a mother before the election, you will try to destroy the entire nation afterwards.”
“We will protect our mothers and sisters and save the nation from these criminals by ensuring Jamaat’s win,” he said.
He accused the three major parties of widespread corruption and misrule, claiming they had failed in all tests of morality, integrity, patriotism and humanity.
He alleged that they had suppressed dissent, undermined the judiciary, crippled the economy, and smuggled billions of state funds abroad.
“They have promised the people but failed to deliver. They made the country a champion of corruption three times, bringing shame to Bangladesh in the global arena,” Parwar said.
Parwar said the sacrifices of the July uprising, including the martyrs and injured, should not be forgotten. He claimed that support for the party’s electoral symbol was rising across rural areas and warned that opponents were panicking.
“People have witnessed 54 years of governance by these parties and now want change,” he said. “This time we will establish a government of justice and fairness where every citizen can live safely.”
Parwar also outlined a plan to protect polling centres on election day. He urged supporters to guard polling stations, saying at least 200 volunteers would be deployed at each centre.
He said the Election Commission had been requested to provide CCTV cameras, police body cameras and military personnel.
“Polling centre captures, ballot box snatching and other disruptions will not be allowed,” he said. “If any troublemakers appear, their images and videos will be recorded and legal action will be taken.”
The rally was attended by leaders of the 11-party alliance. Islami Chhatra Shibir central president Nurul Islam Saddam, speaking as a special guest, criticised the major parties’ claims of fighting corruption and accused them of nominating loan defaulters.
Jamaat leaders Md Shahjahan Khan, candidate Md Shahjahan Mia, district Jamaat Amir Maulana Billal Hossain Miazi, and Cumilla regional election team member Liakat Ali Bhuiyan, spoke at the rally, among others.
Earlier in the day, Parwar spoke at an election rally in Faridganj organised by the local Jamaat.
He later attended another rally in Chandpur-1 (Kachua) in support of Jamaat candidate Abu Nasar Mohammad Mokbul before leaving the district.
