Ganosamhati Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki has said that all political parties taking part in the upcoming national elections must work together to ensure that elections are not disrupted or compromised.
In a statement on Thursday, he said, “The possibility of elections being disrupted or the electoral environment being compromised cannot be ignored. To prevent such risks, all parties involved in the election must consciously fulfill their responsibilities.”
Welcoming the roadmap announced by the Election Commission (EC), Saki added, “This is the formal announcement of the interim government’s election roadmap. We welcome the roadmap declared by the Election Commission.”
In the roadmap, the EC announced that the elections will be held in the first week of February next year, outlining a 24-step plan to conduct the elections.
In the statement, Saki stressed that political parties have a vital role in advancing the democratic process through elections, warning that failure to do so would ultimately harm the parties themselves. He proposed the formation of a committee comprising representatives from all political parties involved in the movement to monitor and maintain a proper election environment under the interim government.
He emphasised, “It is necessary to draft a code of conduct for the election environment with the participation of all parties as soon as possible.”
He explained that this committee would play a key role in resolving any issues or violations of the election code of conduct occurring anywhere in the country.
In addition, he called for consultations with all participating political parties to formulate policies regarding the election environment, the publication and revision of voter lists, and other election-related regulations.
