A 45-year-old woman, Ferdausi Begum, the wife of a Saudi expatriate, was strangled to death in Cumilla last week in what police described as a contract killing motivated by a family land dispute.
Police say four people, including the victim’s sister-in-law, hired three local men for around Tk 200,000 to carry out the murder. The killers allegedly entered Ferdausi’s home on June 27 and strangled her to death, leaving the body undiscovered until July 1.
Authorities recovered the body and sent it to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The suspects were arrested shortly afterwards and, according to police, confessed to the crime before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The four accused have been sent to Cumilla Central Jail pending further legal proceedings.
Investigators say property-related conflicts are a common trigger for such murders in the region, and they have vowed to pursue maximum punishment for those involved.
