More than 80,000 members of the army will be deployed during the upcoming national election, Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Monday.
He added that members of the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and other law enforcement agencies will also be deployed.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the Tegharia High School polling centre in the Dhaka-3 constituency, the adviser said that while two Ansar members were previously assigned to each polling centre, an additional armed Ansar member will be deployed in the next election to ensure the presiding officer’s safety.
“The accurate reporting of Bangladesh’s media has contrinuted towards stopping false reporting in a neighbouring country,” Jahangir said.
Earlier, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus recently announced that the 13th national parliamentary election will be held in February next year, before start of holy month of Ramadan.
