A passenger bus overturned in Mymensingh on Wednesday morning, killing the bus helper and injuring at least 19 people, including a child. The incident occurred around 7:45am near the Gasoline Filling Station at China Mor in the city.

The deceased, identified as Md. Manjurul Hasan (41), was a resident of Sherpur’s Sreebordi Upazila and was serving as the bus helper at the time of the crash. According to police and local sources, the ‘Junaid Express’ bus was en route from Sherpur to Dhaka. As it approached the China Mor area, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which then collided with a road divider and overturned. The helper died on the spot.

Fire service and police teams responded quickly and rescued the injured, sending them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. According to Md. Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of the hospital’s police camp, 19 passengers were admitted, with seven—including a child—hospitalized in various wards due to more serious injuries.

Firoz Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated, “Preliminary investigations suggest the driver fell asleep while driving. He fled the scene immediately after the accident. Legal action is underway.” Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and are working to locate the bus driver.
