After months of uncertainty, the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation finally received an ad-hoc committee as the National Sports Council (NSC) issued the official announcement on Wednesday.
The 19-member committee will be led by Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, Secretary of the Ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives. Veteran sports organiser and actress Aleya Ferdousi has been named as the general secretary.
The newly appointed body also includes Abdur Rahman, Sarwar Hossain, Imran Chowdhury, Taimur Farooq Munna, Yusuf Mohsin, Sirajul Islam Babu, Shahed Ahmed, Miti Dewan, Abdullah Salehin Ayon, and Daiyan Nafis, alongside representatives from the Army, Navy, and the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP).
The appointment follows the dissolution of the previous federation in the wake of the former government’s exit on August 5 last year. A five-member search committee was tasked with forming interim bodies across the country’s sports federations.
The Shooting Federation was one of the last among 52 federations and associations to be handed an ad-hoc committee. Only the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Football Federation have been exempt from the interim appointments, while the Women’s Sports Association remains without a new body.
The announcement brings much-needed administrative clarity to the Shooting Federation, with hopes now resting on the committee to restore momentum in the sport and chart a stable course for the future.
