The government remains on high alert for events scheduled on August 5, though there is no evidence of any security threat, Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd)Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Monday.

Speaking after a Core Committee on Law and Order meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat, Chowdhury dismissed public concerns, saying, “There is no reason to panic. All events will be held peacefully with public cooperation.”

He confirmed that nationwide security operations targeting illegal weapons will continue until the upcoming elections. “We are conducting raids and will recover all unaccounted firearms,” he added.

When asked about rising juvenile crime in Mohammadpur, the adviser acknowledged the trend but emphasized parental and social responsibility over police action.

Regarding recent mob violence, he claimed incidents have “dropped significantly” and warned of strict enforcement.

Senior officials, including Home Ministry Senior Secretary Nasimul Ghani and Ansar DG Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud, attended the briefing.
