Home Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday vowed tough action against extortionists, stating that no individual – regardless of their influence or identity – will be exempt from the law.

Speaking to reporters following a law-and-order meeting held at the Secretariat, the adviser emphasised the government’s firm stance against extortion.

“No extortionist will be spared – no matter how big or influential they are,” he said in response to a question about recent extortion activities. “We did not spare those involved in extortion in Gulshan. They have been caught.”

When asked about individuals allegedly extorting money by posing as coordinators or under false identities, the home adviser reiterated, “No matter how many identities are given or what position someone claims, no one will be spared.”

The adviser also criticised a lack of detailed reporting on extortion cases, urging the media to highlight the actions being taken to address the issue.

The statement comes amid rising public concern over extortion practices in various parts of the capital and beyond.
