The National Citizen Party (NCP) will not participate in any elections without the implementation of a new constitution and the July Charter, declared the party’s convener Nahid Islam.
He made these remarks at a street rally in Panchagarh on Thursday night, organised by NCP’s district committee at Chowringhee intersection following the “July March to Build the Nation”.
Nahid Islam stated: “First implement the July Charter and draft a new constitution, then hold elections. NCP won’t join any polls without these. We urge people to stand with us for constitutional reform.”
Regarding the recent spate of Indian “push-ins“, he demanded: “Stop this push-in. If you must push someone in, push Sheikh Hasina in, not ordinary citizens.”
Thousands of activists and locals gathered together to attend the rally on Tunirhat-Panchagarh road.
Earlier, NCP leaders led a pre-announced march from Panchagarh Stadium with thousands, parading through major town roads joined by civilians.
Senior leaders accompanying Nahid included NCP Organiser (Southern Region) Hasnat Abdullah, NCP Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin, Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zara, Convener Nasiruddin Patwari, and Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Hannan Masud.
NCP top leaders also joined July Marches in Nilphamari, holding street rallies in Debiganj and Boda upazilas.
