The Bangladesh Nationalist Party Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday said that no discussion was made on seat sharing in the meeting with Gana Odhikar Parishad.

He said the meeting focused on the ongoing political situation, the possible February election schedule, and the joint movement for democratic reforms.

The BNP liaison committee held a meeting with Gono Odhikar Parishad on the day.

“We discussed how we, who have long been in the movement together, will move forward unitedly,” Khosru told reporters.

He said both sides were satisfied with the discussion and agreed to stay united in implementing the 31-point reform agenda.

“We have always shared our plans with each other. The meeting in London with Tarique Rahman and the top adviser was also shared with our partners,” he added.

Regarding differences among opposition parties, Khosru said, “There cannot be 100% agreement on everything. But there is a strong consensus on key reforms. Where there is agreement, we will go for reforms. Where there isn’t, the people will decide through elections.”

He made it clear that talks on seat sharing will begin only after the election schedule is announced.

“We have not reached that stage yet. Once the election process begins, we will hold discussions on these matters with all partners,” he said.

Speaking on the legal situation around Ishraque Hossain’s mayorship, Khosru said, “The court has given a clear decision. The Election Commission has also approved it. We believe in the rule of law and expect the government to act accordingly.”

He also responded to remarks made on the same day by former CEC Kazi Habibul Awal about the 2024 elections being dummy elections, saying, “Now many are saying the right things. But that won’t undo the damage done already.”
