Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Wednesday said he is not going to join any political party after the interim period, as he wants to return to journalism.
“I would like to return to journalism and pursue an active writing career. I have some books in mind,” he said in a Facebook post.
The Press Secretary writes, “There is some speculation about the future of the interim government. Some of my friends are assuming that I am joining a major political party or forming a new one. But the reality is, I have no interest in political life. I feel no fascination or attraction for the kind of lifestyle one has to lead as a politician, a member of parliament, or a high-profile political leader.”
Describing the July movement as a “spontaneous, courageous, beautiful, and wide-reaching political struggle,” he writes, “Just as Robert Caro spent his life writing about Lyndon Johnson, a writer could also spend a lifetime writing about the July Revolution—even though some people dislike the term ‘revolution’.”
The Press Secretary also expresses concern for his personal safety in the post.
“Will I be safe in this new phase of life?” he asks. “In recent months, I’ve received terrifying threats from some Awami League activists. Perhaps it’s an expression of their despair, having lost their last ounce of affection.”
In the final part of his post, he writes, “I place my complete trust in the Creator. He is the one who made us, and to Him we shall return. I will wait for my new life.”
