BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has stated that deep conspiracies are underway ahead of the upcoming elections. He remarked, “The next election will be the toughest one yet. Various plots are being hatched surrounding this election. If we can earn the trust, confidence, and love of the people, we will be able to counter all conspiracies.”
He made these comments on Monday evening as the chief guest at the Naogaon District BNP’s biennial conference, joining virtually from London at the Naogaon Convention Center.
Tarique Rahman said, “People want to trust BNP. BNP must do what benefits the country and its citizens. In the first week of February next year, as announced by the interim government, the people will elect BNP through their votes.”
He added, “The autocratic government snatched away people’s voting rights. Instead of thinking about the nation’s interests, they served their own. While they were looting the country, BNP put forward a 31-point reform agenda. Those now demanding reforms – BNP had raised these demands two and a half years ago.”
He emphasised, “BNP has experience in governing the country. We know how to increase crop production, create employment, advance women’s education, and establish industries.”
BNP Standing Committee Member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku spoke as the keynote speaker at the conference, while freedom fighter Abdus Salam, advisor to the BNP Chairperson, inaugurated the event. The conference was presided over by SM Rezaul Islam Rezu, acting convener of Naogaon District BNP.
Other speakers included Organizing Secretary of Rajshahi Division BNP Syed Shahin Shawkat, Co-Organizing Secretaries Amirul Islam Khan Alim and AHM Obaidur Rahman Chandan, former Naogaon District BNP President Shamsuzzoha Khan, and Bogura District BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha, among others.
The Naogaon District BNP is holding its biennial conference after 15 years, generating significant enthusiasm among leaders and activists. Leadership positions – president, general secretary, and organizing secretary—will be elected through direct voting by councilors. A total of 20 candidates are contesting for these three posts.
Previously, in 2010, Shamsuzzoha Khan was elected President, Zahidul Islam Dhalu as General Secretary, and Mamunur Rahman Ripon as Organizing Secretary through council voting at the Naogaon Noujowan Field. After the committee dissolved in 2015, no new committee was formed until an organising committee was established in 2022, with Abu Bakkar Siddique Nannu as Convener and Bayezid Hossain Palash as Member Secretary, comprising 31 approved members.
