News Times editor Sohel Manzur dies at 58

Sohel Manzur, editor of News Times and a veteran economic journalist, passed away early this morning at his residence in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un). He was 58.

He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, and a host of admirers and colleagues. The first funeral prayer (janaza) was held in Mohammadpur this morning. According to family sources, his body will be taken to his ancestral home in Rangpur, where a second janaza will take place before burial.

Sohel Manzur had a long and distinguished career in economic journalism. He worked for several prominent media outlets, including The Daily Star, The Financial Express, and bdnews24.com, among others.

The Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) expressed deep sorrow at his passing. In a condolence message, ERF President Daulat Akhtar and General Secretary Abul Kashem prayed for the salvation of his soul and extended heartfelt sympathies to his bereaved family.
