The newly floated Janata Party Bangladesh (JPB) has demanded a national election without delay along with basic reforms, prosecution of fascists and an end to political extortion, mob violence and violence against women.

The political party has called for a “July Charter” through a national political consensus.

The party, recently floated with an eye to building a “new Bangladesh”, made the demands at a press conference in the capital on Thursday.

It also said that elections without a level playing field will not resolve the national crisis but only lead to further uncertainty and possibly another wave of protest.

The JPB has also demand justice for enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, exploitation, and corruption committed by Shekh Hasina’s autocratic regime.

Economic activity must resume, and law and order must be restored. Otherwise, political rhetoric will hold no value for the public, it said.

A written statement was read out by Executive Chairman Golam Sarwar Milon. Secretary General Shawkat Mahmud introduced central leaders.

The statement says during this historic uprising, the murderous fascist regime of Hasina collapsed like a house of cards and was forced to flee. Terrified by the massive anger of the students and people, around 2,000 fearless revolutionary student protesters, including Abu Sayeed, Wasim and Mugdho, were killed by the autocrats. Several thousand more were injured.

While the nation pays homage to the July martyrs during this anniversary, it is deeply shocking that the outlawed student organisation of the fallen autocratic regime has launched sudden attacks on peaceful processions and rallies, the statement reads.

This student uprising, which began as an anti-discrimination movement, aimed to bring about qualitative political change and uphold the three founding pillars of the Liberation War -equality, human dignity, and social justice, leading ultimately to the fall of fascism and the aspiration for a new state structure, the statement added.
