In a new clinical trial, Ozempic has just reversed biological ageing by 3 years. It made participants biologically younger, especially in the brain and immune system.

Ozempic is primarily known for treating diabetes and obesity. In the trial, participants who took Ozempic (semaglutide) weekly for just over seven months appeared to reverse their biological age by an average of 3.1 years.

The study was led by health tech company TruDiagnostic and conducted on 108 individuals with HIV-associated lipohypertrophy. The results were found by using advanced epigenetic clocks, a method of analysing DNA changes linked to ageing.

While those receiving a placebo saw no notable difference, participants on semaglutide experienced a measurable shift toward a more youthful biological profile.

Researchers found signs of rejuvenation in the brain and immune system, where the biological ageing process appeared to slow by nearly five years. Improvements were also noted in other key organs, including the heart and kidneys.

According to The Guardian, scientists believe the anti-ageing effects stem from semaglutide’s influence on fat distribution and inflammation, two major contributors to how the body ages at a cellular level. Originally developed to help regulate blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes, Ozempic has more recently gained widespread attention for its role in weight management.

This is the first time a trial has directly measured biological age reversal using this kind of technology. Researchers call this result a promising leap in longevity science.

Still, experts are urging caution. While the findings are exciting, they emphasise that Ozempic isn’t yet approved or recommended as an anti-ageing treatment for the public. More research is needed to determine long-term effects and safety for broader populations.
