The Netherlands have announced their squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, set to begin on August 30 in Sylhet. The touring side has made several changes, including a maiden call-up for 17-year-old batter Cedric de Lange and returns for Sebastiaan Braat and Sikander Zulfiqar.
De Lange, a standout performer at the Under-19 level and in domestic competitions such as the Pro Series, has impressed selectors with his consistency. “It’s always exciting to bring a youngster into the squad,” captain Scott Edwards said. “Cedric has been impressive all summer and he’s really earned this call-up.”
Braat, a right-arm quick, makes his first appearance for the national side since 2021, while allrounder Sikander Zulfiqar returns for the first time since 2019. Both have earned recalls after strong domestic and club campaigns.
“It’s great to welcome Sebastiaan Braat back into the side,” Edwards added. “He’s had a strong summer at club and domestic level, and we’re looking forward to having his experience back. Sikander has been a valuable member of our national team before and I’m glad to see him back in orange.”
The squad sees further returns, with opener Vikramjit Singh, legspinner Shariz Ahmed and left-arm pacer Ben Fletcher included after last appearing in the tri-series in Glasgow earlier this year. Shariz also played his last international match in Muscat in 2024.
Fred Klaassen and Tim Pringle, both of whom last featured for the Netherlands in the format in 2024, are also back in the squad. However, the team will be without key players Bas de Leede, Roelof van der Merwe, Michael Levitt, Zach Lion-Cachet and Hidde Overdijk.
Despite these changes, the Netherlands have retained the core of their squad from the T20 World Cup qualifiers. Captain Scott Edwards remains their key batter alongside Max O’Dowd, who top-scored in the qualifiers. The pace attack includes Kyle Klein, who took seven wickets in that tournament, as well as Paul van Meekeren and Aryan Dutt.
The series in Sylhet will mark the Netherlands’ first tour of Bangladesh and acts as a crucial preparation phase ahead of the T20 World Cup next year. The visitors will train in Sylhet for three days ahead of the first T20I on August 30, followed by matches on September 1 and 3.
