National Citizen Party’s (NCP) front organization, its labour wing, has decided to distribute Eid gifts to common workers using donations from its patrons — not ‘forced collections’ — under the slogan “Not extortion, but donation.” The distribution program is scheduled to take place on June 4.
The Labour Wing has already begun reaching out to individuals and organizations with specially designed donation cards, seeking financial assistance for the Eid gift campaign. This marks the NCP Labour Wing’s first major program since its launch. Mamun Chakladar, Joint Coordinator of the Labour Wing, confirmed the details to Times of Bangladesh.
“We are seeking financial assistance from affluent individuals to give Eid gifts to common workers,” he said. “It’s not extortion — we have clearly stated that on the donation card.” Mamun added that the contents of the gift packages will depend on the amount of donation received. “If we receive substantial contributions, the packages may include not only food items but also new clothes like sarees and lungis,” he said.
He further mentioned that final decisions on the distribution will be taken during an organizational meeting ahead of the event.
Riya Parveen, Central Organizer of the Labour Wing, told Times of Bangladesh, “As a newly formed organization, we hope the wealthy will bless us with their support. It will make our Eid gift campaign much easier.” She emphasized, “There is no question of coercion here.”
The NCP Labour Wing was formally launched on May 23 during a press conference, where a 155-member coordination committee was also announced. Mozharul Islam Fakir was appointed as the Chief Coordinator of the Labour Wing.
The committee includes 10 Joint Coordinators, 51 Organizers, and 54 General Members. Among the Joint Coordinators are Mosharraf Hossain Swapon, Shah Alam, Al Amin, Md. Abu Abdullah, Touhidul Islam, Aleya Khatun, Sajib Wafi, Syed Mohammad Sohrab, Abdul Barek, and Mamun Chakladar.
