A seven-member delegation from the National Citizen Party (NCP) met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in Dhaka on Saturday, calling for a resolution of the longstanding 1971 dispute between the two countries.
The meeting took place at the Pakistan High Commission in the capital, where NCP leaders conveyed public sentiment in Bangladesh and emphasised the need to strengthen bilateral ties.
“We tried to present the public perception of Pakistan in Bangladesh,” said NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain following the meeting. “There is an opportunity to improve relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh. We believe the 1971 issue must be resolved to move forward.”
Apart from historical concerns, the discussion also touched on potential cooperation in areas such as education, economy, and cultural exchange.
Islamabad, in response, said it was ready to engage in dialogue over the issue, according to sources present at the meeting.
