The National Citizen Party (NCP) will issue the ‘July Declaration’ on August 3 to mark the first anniversary of the ‘July Mass Uprising’. The party has announced a month-long programme to commemorate the event.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at the temporary office of the party in Banglamotor in the capital on Sunday.
To mark the ‘July Uprising ‘ first anniversary , NCP will launch a countrywide campaign titled ‘Desh Gort-e July Padajatra’ (March for Nation Building) from July 1 to July 30.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam announced the programme at the press conference.
“Starting July 1, we will observe the anniversary of the ‘July Mass Uprising’. A year has already passed since that historic movement. While we’ve achieved many things, there are also disappointments. It is our moral duty to remember the historic 36 days of July and August,” said Nahid Islam.
He said the Padajatra will begin with a visit to the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed and eventually march across the country before returning to Dhaka.
The party will also observe ‘Anti-Discrimination Martyrs’ Day’ on July 16, Nahid added.
On August 5, the ‘Students and People’s Liberation Day’ will be celebrated, with various programs organized across the country to mark the day of liberation from dictatorship, convenor of NCP Nahid Islam the press conference.
NCP’s northern region chief organizer, Sarjish Alam, will be the convener of the month-long programme and the secretary of the programme is Joint Convener Anik Raj.
Additionally, July 16 will be observed as ‘Anti-Discrimination Martyrs Day’, where a prayer and a memorial service will be held in remembrance of martyrs, including Abu Saeed.
Nahid Islam stated, “Since the government has failed to fulfill its promises, on August 3, the July Declaration and manifesto will be read at the Central Shaheed Minar.”
