The National Citizen Party (NCP) has initiated its first high-profile disciplinary action since its launch, issuing a show-cause notice to its joint member-secretary Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir over allegations of interference in Deputy Commissioner (DC) appointments and involvement in textbook commission deals.
He has been asked to reply within seven days and will be relieved from all charges during the period as per directive of party convenor Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, according to a release on Monday.
The notice, served on Sunday, directly refers to a report published by Daily Inquilab, which accused Tanvir of using political influence to manipulate administrative appointments and of brokering commission-based deals in the printing of textbooks for the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).
According to the report, Tanvir allegedly recommended names for key field administration posts in exchange for political allegiance and facilitated contracts for selected publishers through unofficial payments.
In response to rising internal pressure and public scrutiny, the NCP has asked Tanvir to respond in writing within seven working days.
A senior party leader said: “We are setting a precedent—our party is serious about internal accountability.”
Tanvir has not publicly commented on the issue, though associates claim the allegations are “politically motivated and baseless.”
This marks a significant moment for the NCP, which has positioned itself as a reformist force in Bangladeshi politics following last year’s mass uprising.
Party leaders hinted that more internal investigations could follow if further complaints arise.
