NCP march heads to Cumilla with major rally at Town Hall

As part of its ongoing ‘July March to Build the Nation’ campaign, top leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) are heading to Cumilla on Wednesday, with a major rally scheduled at the Town Hall Field.

The daylong march will begin at 10 a.m. from Chandpur and conclude with a rally at 5 p.m. at the Bir Muktijoddha Rafiqul Islam stage in Cumilla Town Hall, according to organisers.

The event is set to feature speeches from senior NCP figures, including Convenor Nahid Islam, Southern Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah, Northern Coordinator Sarjis Alam, Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara, Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwari, Senior Chief Organiser Sadia Farzana Dina, Senior Joint Convenor Samanta Sharmin, Joint Member Secretary Zainal Abedin Shishir, and Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud. Several central and district leaders are also expected to speak.

Security has been tightened across Cumilla in advance of the gathering. Police and intelligence officers were seen deployed at the rally venue from 9:30 a.m. Cumilla Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moinul Islam told journalists that law enforcement has taken adequate measures to ensure order during the event.

The city has been decorated with banners, festoons, and welcome arches ahead of the leaders’ arrival. Part of the Town Hall’s tree fair area has been cleared for the stage setup.

NCP Cumilla Region Coordinator Navid Nawroz Shah said the march will enter the city through Sadar Dakshin Upazila, where leaders will pay tribute at the grave of Shaheed Masum. The formal procession will start at Tomchom Bridge and pass through Pubali Square, Jhautola, Police Lines, District Council, City Corporation Road, Fouzdhari Road, Press Club, Shilpakala Mor, Mughultuli, Rajganj, Monoharpur, and Liberty Square before ending at Town Hall.

Following the rally, the NCP march will continue toward Brahmanbaria via Shashongachha, Alekharchar, and the Mainamati Cantonment road.
