Leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Wednesday afternoon, protesting attacks on their leaders by banned Chhatra League men in Gopalganj.

NCP supporters gathered at Shahbagh at around 5pm, causing the vehicular movement halted in and around the area.

They also chanted slogans condemning the attack.

The Dhaka North and South units of NCP announced a torch procession at 8pm on Wednesday from in front of the party’s central office in the Banglamotor area of the capital. NCP Joint Member Secretary Zainal Abedin Shishir announced the programme through a press statement.

In response to the attacks, the party’s youth wing, Jatiya Juboshokti, declared a nationwide blockade programme.

However, later they withdrew the blockade as leaders were rescued by security forces.
