Nationwide protests and rallies were held on Saturday condemning the brutal killing of businessman Sohag, who was beaten and stoned to death in broad daylight in Dhaka’s Mitford area.
Dhaka Protests
Students from BRAC University protested at the main gate under the banner “Conscious Students of BRAC University.” Similar demonstrations were held at North South University (NSU), Eden College, and East West University.
The night before, students from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Chittagong, Rangpur, and other institutions also protested, demanding exemplary punishment for the killers.
Protests Across Districts
Rajbari
At 11am, students of Rajbari Government High School (2023 batch) and local citizens marched from the school premises to Rajbari Press Club. Protesters questioned, “Is this the country we fought for? Extortion and murder are now happening openly.”
Gopalganj
Students of Gopalganj University of Science & Technology (GUBST) held a human chain at 2pm. Al Mahmud, an Accounting student, demanded: “Exemplary punishment for criminals must be ensured. The culture of impunity must end.”

Nilphamari
Residents of Domar blocked roads near the railway gate, condemning the murder and demanding justice.
Thakurgaon
A large protest march started from Boro Math, converging into an hour-long rally at the town square. Separately, BNP’s youth, volunteer, and student wings also protested, demanding swift justice.
Munshiganj
Activists from the Anti-Discrimination Movement, National Citizen Party, Student Rights Council, and Islamic Movement held a human chain in front of Munshiganj Press Club. Slogans like “No place for extortionists in this Bengal!” echoed as speakers condemned the “stone-age brutality” of the killing.
Mymensingh
Mymensingh Medical College students rallied, calling for justice and warning against the rise of fascism.
Sylhet
On Friday night, hundreds of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) students marched from Shah Paran Hall to Bangabandhu Hall, vowing: “Students will never bow to injustice!”

Kushtia
The Islamic Movement, Kushtia branch, marched from Boro Bazar to Majampur, condemning nationwide extortion and violence.
Faridpur
Students and locals marched from Rajendra College, warning against BNP-linked extortion rackets.
Lalmonirhat
The Islamic Movement, Lalmonirhat branch, protested at Mission Mor, demanding an end to extortion and terrorism.
Jhalakathi
Students marched from Fire Service Mor to the Press Club, demanding justice.
Jashore
Teachers, students, and cultural activists held a human chain at Jashore Press Club, condemning rising crime due to a “culture of impunity.”
Naogaon
Protesters rallied at Muktir Mor, marching through key streets before holding a short assembly.
Tangail
The Democratic Students’ Alliance marched from Shaheed Minar to Nirala Mor, demanding justice.
Rangamati
A rally began at Bonrupa Jame Mosque, culminating at the DC Office, with slogans like “No more murder and extortion!”
