Today, Muslims across Bangladesh are observing the holy day of Ashura with religious reverence and deep sorrow, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his followers in the tragic Battle of Karbala.

In Dhaka, the main Tazia procession began around 10 AM from the historic Hussaini Dalan Imambara, as members of the Shia community gathered early in the morning, chanting “Ya Hussain, Ya Hassan.”

The somber march will move through Azimpur, Nilkhet, New Market, and Science Lab, ending in Dhanmondi.

To ensure security, authorities implemented heightened measures. The movement of sharp objects such as knives, scissors, machetes, and sticks in the procession was strictly prohibited.

Firecrackers and fireworks were also banned out of respect for the sacred month of Muharram.

Law enforcement presence was visibly robust, with police and intelligence agencies deployed in key areas. Organizers and security forces worked together to maintain order during the religious observance.

A special dua and discussion session was also held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, focusing on the significance of the day in Islamic history.

In a message marking the occasion, Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus called Ashura a powerful symbol of the eternal struggle against injustice and oppression.

He paid tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions who embraced martyrdom at Karbala, urging people to draw inspiration from their courage and commitment to truth.

Ashura is observed on the 10th of Muharram in the Islamic calendar and is one of the most solemn days in the Muslim world, symbolizing sacrifice, steadfastness, and devotion.
