The entire nation is now looking towards the London meeting with great expectations, as the formal talks between Muhammad Yunus and Tarique Rahman are being seen as a source of joy, commented BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

He said, “The anticipated meeting in London between Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will bring a fresh breeze for democracy in Bangladesh.”

He expressed this optimism during a press briefing at BNP’s Naya Paltan central office on Wednesday.

The BNP leader stated, “I believe this meeting will be historic and usher in a new wave for democracy in Bangladesh. This meeting is extremely important.”

He also expressed hope that this meeting would play a crucial role in saving and strengthening Bangladesh’s “unfortunate democracy.”

It is expected that the meeting will prevent the return of fascism and ensure that democracy is not destroyed by aggressive forces. He added that it would be significant in strengthening and sustaining democratic practices in the country.

When asked about BNP’s stance on holding the general election in December, he reiterated that his party has already presented logical reasons for this timeline.

Rizvi said, “The people of the country also consider December a reasonable time for elections. Discussions are ongoing… we will know the outcome later.”

He is optimistic that the existing national issues, including the election timeline, can be resolved through this crucial meeting.

Rizvi further said that people are being labeled as foreigners and pushed back at various Indian borders daily. Deliberate provocations and attempts to spread conflict are ongoing. Push-in incidents at the border have increased. “Is Bangladesh a dumping ground?”

The BNP leader reminded India that even an autocratic ruler like Sheikh Hasina could not stay in power through oppression and torture, as she was forced to flee the country in broad daylight.

Expressing deep concern over the recent rise in COVID-19 infections in India and some detected cases in Bangladesh, Rizvi criticised the Health Ministry’s lack of proper measures and urged the government to take immediate preventive steps.

The BNP leader also noted that the dengue situation has worsened and now poses a public health threat. “The government must work more closely with the public to tackle this crisis,” he said.
