Naogaon University has received an approval from government authorities to acquire 96.81 acres of land for establishment of its campus.
To this effect, the Ministry of Education issued a notification on Monday.
The land will be acquired in the mouzas of Shaluka, Chakrampur, and Pathuria areas in Naogaon Sadar Upazila.
Naogaon University Vice-Chancellor Hasanat Ali said, “A proposal had been sent to acquire land in several mouzas adjacent to Naogaon municipality in Sadar Upazila for setting up the university campus.”
“Following a feasibility assessment, the ministry has given administrative approval for land acquisition in the proposed areas.”
Earlier on February 28, 2022, the then cabinet approved a draft law to establish a university in Naogaon named after Bangabandhu.
Subsequently, on February 7, 2023, the Parliament passed the bill.
However, on 16 January 2025, the interim government renamed the institution from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University to Naogaon University.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has not yet approved student enrollment or the commencement of academic activities.
Since the inception of the university, its administrative activities have been operating on a rented building in Naogaon Model Town area.
