Just after concluding a three-day trip to Malaysia, Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), is set to pay official visit to China.

He will lead an eight-member delegation representing the party.

The NCP delegation is scheduled to depart for China on August 26, and return on August 30. This visit comes as part of growing political engagements between Chinese officials and various Bangladeshi political parties.

Other NCP members are Member Secretary Akhter Hossain, Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Senior Joint Convenor Samanta Sharmin, Senior Joint Member Secretary Nahida Sarwar Nibha, Joint Convenor Mahbub Alam, Joint Member Secretary Tahsin Riaz.

Meanwhile, ahead of the visit, a formal reception was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Thursday. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen attended the event. The embassy later shared details of the gathering on its official Facebook page.

Prior to the China trip, Nahid Islam will visit Malaysia from August 22 to 24, at the invitation of the NCP Diaspora Alliance – Malaysia Chapter.

This China tour follows a string of recent diplomatic outreach efforts between Chinese authorities and Bangladeshi political parties.

On July 11 to 15, a nine-member delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami, led by party chief Shafiqur Rahman, visited China. Earlier in June, a BNP delegation led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also toured Beijing at the invitation of the Communist Party of China.
