National Citizen Party-NCP Convener Nahid Islam has voiced strong concerns over ongoing conspiracies against Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. He emphasized that those involved in the July Uprising will not allow any such plots to harm the country’s core values.
Speaking at a road meeting in Kishoreganj’s Purathan, Nahid Islam declared, “We want to make it clear that as long as there is even a drop of blood left in us, we will not allow any conspiracy against the country’s sovereignty and independence.”
The road meeting, marking the 26th day of the nationwide July March, took place after a procession of party leaders and activists from the district’s Old Stadium. The rally concluded at the meeting where Nahid Islam also critiqued the government, indirectly referring to former president Abdul Hamid as “the fascist president who handed over our Bangladesh to Sheikh Hasina, thus killing democracy.”
Further highlighting the government’s failures, Nahid Islam pointed out that despite the change in government, the country has not seen any real transformation. “The fascist forces of Awami League are still lurking, threatening families of martyrs and their loved ones. We must remain vigilant to prevent them from gaining any ground,” he added.
Reflecting on the ongoing struggle for justice, Nahid lamented that, even after a year since the people’s uprising, citizens’ rights have still not been fully realized.
He also spoke about the growing climate of extortion and terrorism in society, stating, “We had to take to the streets again due to the rise in extortion and terrorism. This is why we urge the government to bring about fundamental reforms and implement the July Agreement.”
The rally ended with the popular slogan, “Justice, reform, and a new constitution at the people’s door,” while various other NCP leaders also addressed the gathering. Among them were party General Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Organizer for the Southern region Hasnat Abdullah, Joint Convenor Samantha Sharmin, Joint Secretary Ahmad Saeed Khan, and the district’s Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leader Ikram Hossain. The event was attended by key figures such as NCP Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwari and Joint Secretary Dr. Taslim Jara.
