Mustafizur Rahman has returned to the upper echelons of the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings after a superb showing in Bangladesh’s recent series win over Pakistan.
The left-arm seamer, who picked up three wickets at an average of just seven, has climbed 17 spots to joint-ninth in the world rankings with India’s Arshdeep Singh. Both now sit on 653 rating points.
It is the first time Mustafizur has broken into the top 10 since 2021, marking a resurgence for the experienced pacer who has been in and out of the side in recent years. His economy, discipline, and ability to strike at crucial moments played a vital role in Bangladesh clinching the series against Pakistan.
Fellow all-rounder Mahedi Hasan was also among the biggest movers in the latest update. The off-spinner rose nine places to 16th in the bowling rankings after a string of tidy performances, including figures of 2 for 25 in the second T20I.
The latest ICC rankings update also featured movement from players across the West Indies, Australia, and Zimbabwe, but it was the Bangladeshi duo who stole the spotlight from a South Asian perspective.
Mahedi and Mustafizur’s success comes at a time when Bangladesh are trying to rebuild their T20 credentials after a string of inconsistent results over the last year. Their efforts in the recent series showed signs of promise, not just for individual milestones but for team growth as well.
Elsewhere in the rankings, West Indies captain Shai Hope achieved a career-best 10th place in the batting list, while Roston Chase jumped to second in the all-rounder charts after a blistering 60 against Australia.
Australia’s Mitchell Marsh (up to 23rd in batting) and Cameron Green (up to 28th among all-rounders) were also rewarded for their efforts in the ongoing West Indies series.
But from a Bangladesh point of view, it is Mustafizur’s return to the elite club of T20 bowlers that will bring the most joy. Once again, the Fizz is rising.
