Mustafizur Rahman will not play in The Hundred 2026 after Birmingham Phoenix confirmed that the Bangladesh left arm pacer has been ruled out of the tournament.
The franchise announced the news on social media, ending hopes that Mustafizur would recover in time for the competition.
Mustafizur was signed by Birmingham Phoenix for £100,000 in the player draft earlier this year. He was set to become the first Bangladeshi cricketer to feature in The Hundred. However, injuries have denied him that milestone.
The 30 year old suffered a grade 1 tear in his right hamstring and meniscal degeneration in his right knee during Bangladesh’s ODI series against Zimbabwe earlier this month. He felt pain while bowling in the first ODI and later underwent scans that confirmed the injuries.
He was initially ruled out for four weeks and travelled to Birmingham for medical assessment and rehabilitation. At that time, Birmingham Phoenix had hoped he would recover in time to play some part in the tournament.
Those hopes have now ended after the club confirmed he will miss the entire 2026 season.
Mustafizur had already been ruled out of the rest of Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe because of the injury. He is now expected to continue his recovery.
