A Cumilla court on Thursday placed four individuals on a three-day police remand each in connection with filming and circulating a video of a rape incident that occurred in Muradnagar upazila on June 26.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Momin ul Haque passed the remand order around noon after hearing a petition filed by Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin, the investigation officer of Muradnagar Police Station. Court Inspector Sadequr Rahman confirmed the matter.
The four accused — Sumon, Ramzan, Md Arif, and Md Onik — all residents of Panchkitta village in Muradnagar, were arrested under the Pornography Control Act for allegedly releasing the footage of the assault on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
According to case documents, on the night of June 26, one Fazar Ali, 38, reportedly entered the victim’s residence at Ramchandrapur Panchkitta village while her family members were away and raped her.
During the incident, several people present filmed the assault and later circulated the footage online.
In response, the victim filed a case under the Pornography Control Act, leading police to arrest the four accused involved with the video leak. She also filed another case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Law enforcers arrested Fazar Ali from the Sayedabad area of Dhaka on June 29. He is currently receiving treatment under police custody at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the High Court ordered the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove all circulated video footage of the incident from the internet. The court also directed authorities to ensure the victim’s security and provide medical support, asking for an update on the investigation by July 14.
