Former chief editor of Ekattor Television, Mozammel Haque Babu, has been shown arrested in an extortion case.
Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman issued the order today, Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Mozammel Babu was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) Court in Dhaka, where police sought permission to show him arrested in an extortion case filed with Banani Police Station. Following the hearing, the court granted the request.
The case was filed on 11 January by Chowdhury Md Humayun Kabir, an official of Boishakhi TV, against Babu and two others, accusing them of demanding Tk10 crore in extortion in 2007 at the Boishakhi TV office.
Police arrested Mozammel Babu from Mymensingh on 16 September last year. He was later shown arrested in several murder cases linked to the July mass uprising. Since then, he has remained in jail.
