Some unknown persons have been sued over the sensational murder of 9-year-old girl Moyna Akhter in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria. Lipa Akhter, mother of the victim, filed the case with Sarail Police Station on Monday.
Additional Superintendent of Police Tapan Sarker confirmed the news to the Times of Bangladesh. The case has been filed on charges of violating and killing the girl, the police officer said.
Hamidur Rahman, imam of a local mosque, and muazzin Saidul Islam have been detained and kept in police custody for questioning.
“So far, no substantial evidence has been found connection with the incident,” Sarker said.
Sarker also confirmed that the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are actively working to unearth clues to the murder.
Moyna Akhter, daughter of Bahrain expatriate Abdur Razzak and a fifth-grade student at Latif Mostari Govt Primary School, went missing on Saturday from her home in Chandumia Para of the upazila. Later, her body was found on Sunday afternoon on the second floor of the Hablipara Jame Mosque.
Her body was reportedly unclothed and bore signs of severe injury.
As the incident has triggered widespread criticism, police detained the imam and the muazzin in connection with the incident.
