Motorbike accident kills elderly woman in Begunbari

One killed and three injured in a road accident on Dhaka Mawa expressway

A 60-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in Dhaka’s Begunbari area. Another youth, Faisal (18), was injured in the incident.

The accident occurred around 6:30pm on Saturday. The elderly woman, named Bely Begum, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared her dead.

Rakiba Begum, who helped bring them to the hospital, said Bely Begum lived in the Begunbari slum and sold water by carrying it in containers. While walking through the Boro Bazar area in the evening to sell water, a speeding motorcycle struck her. Upon impact, her clothes got tangled with the bike, and the rider was thrown off, hitting a roadside pole.

Locals first took them to a nearby hospital before transferring them to Dhaka Medical College, where doctors pronounced Bely Begum dead. Rakiba added that the woman had no husband and had lived in Begunbari and surrounding areas for many years.

Faisal’s friend Saiful Islam Yasin said Faisal also lived in Begunbari. In the evening, he had borrowed a friend’s motorcycle for a ride when the collision occurred. Doctors confirmed Faisal suffered fractures in his left leg and right hand and is in critical condition.

Dhaka Medical College Police Camp In-Charge Inspector Md Faruk confirmed the death, citing medical reports. The body has been kept in the morgue, while the injured youth remains admitted to the emergency department.
