Mother, son electrocuted while rescuing cattle in Lalmonirhat

A woman and her son were electrocuted to death while trying to save their cow in Kaliganj Upazila of Lalmonirhat district this morning. The cattle also died instantly in the incident.

The tragedy occurred around 9:00 am at Dulali Harikhowa village under Goral union, police and local sources confirmed.

According to witnesses, during morning rains, the family’s cow accidentally entered a room where a battery-operated auto-rickshaw was being charged. The animal came in contact with a live wire and got electrocuted.

Hearing the commotion, 25-year-old Jamal rushed to rescue the cow but was immediately electrocuted. His 45-year-old mother, Kamala Begum then attempted to save her son, only to suffer the same fate.

Family members promptly disconnected the power supply, but both mother and son were declared dead on the spot.

Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Selim Malik confirmed the incident and said the bodies were sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

No case was filed as the deaths appeared accidental, police added.
