A new platform named “Moncho 71” has been launched to protect the spirit of the Liberation War, prevent distortion of its history, and defend the dignity of freedom fighters.

The platform is formed through the collaboration of valiant freedom fighters, representatives of the new generation, and student-public communities.

The platform is coordinated by Abdullah Al Mahmud (Bir Protik) and senior Supreme Court lawyer ZI Khan Panna, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.

The statement also outlined five-point demands for defending the Liberation War spirit and the dignity of freedom fighters.

“The great Liberation War is the most glorious and sacrificial chapter in the history of the Bengali nation. The independence earned through the blood of hundreds of thousands of martyrs, the dignity of mothers and sisters, and the immense sacrifices of millions is not just about a territory, a flag, or a national anthem—it is the shining chapter of the Bengali nation’s eternal struggle for its dream, spirit, and self-respect. However, with deep sorrow, anger, and frustration, we are witnessing a sinister conspiracy to erase the history of the Liberation War.”

It added that following the August coup, various so-called declarations and statements are being used to humiliate the Liberation War and undermine its ideals in front of the nation. The freedom fighters are deeply shocked and outraged by these distortions of history, which are seen as an attempt to reject the Liberation War.

The release continued, “In this context, the valiant freedom fighters of Bangladesh, the new generation, and representatives of the student and public communities have united under the banner of ‘Stage 71’ to stop the distortion of the Liberation War’s history.”

The demands include: the July Declaration must not include any statement or explanation that contradicts the history or spirit of the Liberation War. Any disrespectful content in the declaration regarding the war or independence must be completely rejected.

The Bengali nation will never accept any attempt to erase the achievements, history, or spirit of the Liberation War in the name of formulating a so-called new constitution.

Freedom fighters must not be collectively blamed for the crimes or failures of any political party.

All individuals involved in distorting history, erasing the Liberation War’s legacy, spreading hatred or resentment against it, or disrespecting freedom fighters must be immediately prosecuted for treason, arrested, and brought to justice.

Professor Muhammad Yunus’s interim government must clarify its stance on the Liberation War. They must publicly state what they believe, what they intend to do, and what they will not do regarding the Liberation War.

The press release warned that if these demands are ignored and any so-called declaration disrespects or distorts the history and legacy of the Liberation War, Stage 71 will announce future programs in the capital Dhaka, involving the people of the nation.
