Members of the newly formed Moheshkhali Integrated Development Authority (MIDA) met with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. The delegation was led by MIDA Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun.
The meeting with the Chief Adviser was held at state guesthouse Jamuna on Wednesday afternoon. Also present were MIDA members Commodore Tanzim Faruq and Md Sarwar Alam, along with the Chief Adviser’s Chief Coordinator for SDGs Lamia Morshed and Secretary of the Chief Adviser’s Office Md Saifullah Panna.
During the meeting, the MIDA chairman gave a presentation on the Moheshkhali-Matarbari project. He presented MIDA’s work plan for the next four months.
The MIDA chairman informed the chief adviser that the project will be completed in three phases – the first phase from 2025 to 2030, the second phase from 2030 to 2045, and the third phase from 2045 to 2055. He stated that, upon implementation, the project will directly and indirectly employ approximately 25 lakh people and add $150 billion to the GDP.
The chief adviser placed special emphasis on research related to the deep sea. He also stressed building an international-standard training facility in the Moheshkhali region. Professor Yunus suggested seeking advice and cooperation from global experts in this field if necessary.
